PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel wrestling team made its debut on the national rankings this week with the No. 24 spot in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll. This marks the first time the Dragons have been ranked in the Top 25 since the Coaches Poll originated in the late 1950’s.

The Dragons (6-1) are coming off a strong weekend in which they overcame then-No. 25 Princeton, 17-15 as a part of the Nebraska Duals. The squad fell to No. 7 Nebraska in their next dual, 33-4, but then came back to defeat Michigan State in its last match-up of the day, 25-9.

Drexel has also earned recognition from FloWrestling this week, as the site has the team entering the rankings at 20th overall. Redshirt seniors Kevin Devoy Jr. and Matthew Cimato also continue to appear on FloWrestling’s individual rankings, with Devoy holding the No. 11 spot at 133 and Cimato notched at 15th overall at 149.

“We are very excited about the progress our program has made over the past five years,” said Head Coach Matt Azevedo. “Earning our first national ranking is an amazing honor and a great benchmark for continued success. I am so proud of our team!”

The Dragons return to action this Saturday, Dec. 10 as they host Columbia at the Daskalakis Athletic Center for the 2016-17 home opener. Matches are set to begin at 6 p.m.
