Aaron Pico will miss World Cup

File this under the “bummer” news category, but it looks like one of America’s most promising freestyle wrestlers, Aaron Pico will be sidelined due to an apparent injury. Pico tweeted the news from his personal account:

With Pico specifying that the timeframe he will miss as six to nine months we can logically conclude that the Olympic Trials runner-up will not be competing for Team USA at next month’s United World Wrestling Men’s Freestyle World Cup. Pico was slated to compete at 70 kg for USA.

This news means that USA will need to find a new wrestler to fill Pico’s spot in the lineup, and logically that wrestler would be 2015 World bronze medalist, James Green.

Takedown Wrestling will not speculate as to the extent of the injury, but we do wish Pico a swift recovery.
